PREPARATION STAGE

Print out and cut out the downloaded material. Our tip: you can use the game much longer if you laminate the cut cards and strips.

GAME OBJECTIVE

The language objective of this game is to improve learners' speaking fluency in describing character traits. The game objective is to finish the game having no strips in hand.

RULES OF THE GAME

  • Deal some colourful square cards with some numbers together with some strips with character traits and their definitions. All players should receive an even number of cut strips. All strips should be handed out.
  • If the number of students makes it impossible to hand out an even number of strips and definitions, you can put away some of the words or definitions before the game. You might as well create some new character traits and new definitions and put them into a pool.
  • Students throw an online dice in turns by pressing the key: THROW A DICE.

When a result (a colour and a number) appears on a screen, a student with a similar result on a card reads out either a definition or a character trait from a randomly chosen strip.

Example 1: PATIENT
If, for example, a student chooses a strip with the word “PATIENT”, all players should be looking for a definition of this word in their sets of strips. If someone finds such definition, one has to shout: GOT IT! and reads it out loud.
A) If the definition does not match the word, both players keep the cards.
B) If the definition matches the word, both players put aside the strips they chose earlier.

Example 2: “DON’T LIKE WAITING"
If, for example, a student chooses a strip with the definition “DON’T LIKE WAITING", the rest of the players search for the right character trait in their sets matching the definition. If someone finds such definition, one has to shout: GOT IT! and reads it out loud.
A) If the word does not match the definition, both players keep the cards.
B) If the word matches the definition, both players put aside the strips they chose earlier.

The game finishes when the players have no other strips or definitions in hand or when the set time for the game runs out.
