BAFFLE ME – TO BE

The verb ‘to be’ is the absolute foundation of English — but that is precisely why it’s worth practising it until it becomes instinctive. Without having to think too long, without mixing up the forms, and without any uncertainty when faced with the simplest questions such as ‘Are you…?’, ‘Is he…?’ or ‘Am I…?’

BAFFLE ME – TO BE helps to consolidate this key structure in a quick, engaging and practical way. Participants ask questions, answer them, read phrases, listen to other players and respond under time pressure. As a result, the verb ‘to be’ ceases to be just the first lesson in a textbook and starts to function in real-life communication.

The game works particularly well when a common problem arises: someone knows the forms ‘am’, ‘is’ and ‘are’, but in conversation still hesitates, replies with a single word or needs a moment to formulate the correct question. There’s no room here for passively copying sentences — there’s action, competition and a specific reason to speak English.

In the BAFFLE ME variant, players compete against each other by asking questions at a rapid pace to provoke a wrong answer and eliminate their opponent from the game. In the ASK ME variant, the task is to create questions that match the short answers shown on the circles. Every correct response brings you closer to victory, so the motivation to speak arises naturally.
