The first conditional is a grammatical structure that quickly proves useful in real-life communication. It allows us to talk about what might happen, predict outcomes, plan actions and consider the consequences of various situations. The problem arises when learning is limited to a pattern on the board and a few sentences to complete.

CHAIN STORIES & SHOWER OF QUESTIONS CONDITIONAL I helps you practise the first conditional in a much more natural way — through storytelling, asking questions and creating sequences of events. Participants not only practise the ‘If…, I will…’ structure, but use it to build stories, respond to others’ ideas and develop their own statements.

In the Chain Stories variant, players arrange sentences into a logical whole, creating a story based on cause-and-effect connections. One event leads to the next, and participants learn to talk about consequences in a coherent and understandable way. As a result, grammar ceases to be detached from meaning — it begins to drive the narrative.

In the ‘Shower of Questions’ variant, participants practise asking questions in specific situations. This is a great way to develop conversation skills, as the questions do not arise at random — they stem from the context, the story and what might happen next.
