You know that moment when you ask a student how they feel, and all you hear is “gut” or “Mir geht’s gut”?

EMOTIONSRAD was created to make talking about emotions a natural part of the lesson. The board features a wheel with 16 emotions, from GLÜCKLICH and AUFGEREGT to NERVÖS, EIFERSÜCHTIG and ENTTÄUSCHT, and an inner ring with 8 prompts that guide the conversation: WARUM?, WANN?, WIE REAGIERST DU?, WAS HILFT?, ERZÄHL EINE GESCHICHTE, GIB EIN BEISPIEL, ZEIG ES and FRAG EINEN FREUND. Players roll the die, tell stories from real life, films and TV series, show emotions without words, act out short dialogues and build a story together in which the main character’s mood changes with every roll.

Students don’t feel like they are doing just another exercise. They speak because they want to guess the emotion, score a point or come up with the best scene – and with every turn they use the new words with more and more confidence.

With six different game variants, from competing for points to a relaxed conversation without points, it works perfectly in one-to-one lessons, group classes, private tutoring, language schools and at home. You can use it as a quick warm-up or as the main part of the lesson.

EMOTIONSRAD “grows” with the learner. At lower levels, players name emotions, answer simple questions and show feelings with gestures. With more advanced students, you can develop storytelling, justifying, dialogues set in specific places and conversations about what helps when dealing with difficult emotions.

It’s the perfect game for teachers and parents who want their students to speak more, more boldly and more naturally – and to better understand themselves and others along the way.

Here, they simply have something to talk about!

Language benefits

Rich vocabulary for emotions: Students learn and consolidate 16 emotions, from basic ones (glücklich, traurig, ruhig) to more complex ones (beschämt, eifersüchtig, enttäuscht), and learn to use them in full sentences.
Storytelling and justifying: The prompts WARUM?, WANN? and WIE REAGIERST DU? encourage students to describe situations from real life, films and TV series, give examples and explain what caused a particular emotion.
Speaking in real-life situations: Short dialogues at school, in a restaurant, at the airport or on the beach, as well as building stories together, get students using German in a practical, communicative context.
Fluency and confidence: Follow-up questions, reacting to what a partner says and quickly switching from one emotion to another teach spontaneous speaking and help students overcome the language barrier.
